Re: “The Bacon-Wrapped Economy

Nothing against Google, but "Don't be evil" is nowhere near as worthy a motto as "Try to do good". THAT mentality is one that requires a lot more thought, accountability, self-awareness, hard work and compassion on the part of the individual. "Don't be evil" should be a given, it should be square one of being a human being. The social problem that this article is helping to bring to light is the intrinsic difference between these mentalities, and what results could be linked to a consumerist, self-centered, self-congratulatory mentality versus one that aspires to do more and places generosity and cultural/spiritual enrichment over (or at least on par with) personal and material gain. The point is not that the Old Money was good and the New Money is bad, but that young people often have narrow perspectives that are focused largely on themselves, and when that is combined with a lot of money and power, it's just as potentially problematic as old people with money and power who refuse to change and grow. And I say that as a guy who loves Kickstarter- and the Symphony. We need both in the world, and we need both in this city for it to truly be a great city and not just a trendy zip code for the wealthy from either set.
