Re: “Celebrating East Bay Literary History for the Oakland Book Festival

Interestingly, several of these authors are inspired by cannabis (or may have been): Jack London http://www.veryimportantpotheads.com/londo…; Gertrude Stein http://tokinwoman.blogspot.com/2014/02/ger…; Robert Louis Stevenson http://www.veryimportantpotheads.com/steve…; Amy Tan http://tokinwoman.blogspot.com/2014/08/amy…. Perhaps it's no mystery why Oakland is nicknamed Oaksterdam.

Re: “Alameda County Fast-Tracks Medical Pot Ban

The sunset language added yesterday to the Alameda County medical marijuana ordinance (ban) reads: “This ordinance shall be repealed by its own terms upon the adoption of state legislation repealing or eliminating the March 1, 2016 deadline in Health and Safety Code section 11362.777c4.” Cal NORML suggests this be added to any pending ordinance.

Re: “California's Legalization Quagmire

DPA has had its share of failures. Too bad they aren't working well with others (so far). The rest of the conference was so positive, it's a shame to have to read this. DPA needs to sit down at the drafting table with the CCPR coalition.

Re: “Pot Law Reformers Killed A Slew of Sick Bills This Year in Sacramento

Strictly speaking, it wasn't just "patients" who killed the bills, esp. Assembly Bill 2500, this year's DUI bill. California NORML Coordinator Dale Gieringer testified against the measure at its April 29th hearing, before the committee voted it down. Although the bill never got to the floor, NORML members (both medical and recreational users) sent in 2000 emails against the bill. NORML's been fighting for drivers' rights since the 80s, with the "Smoke a Joint, Lose Your License" laws we fought off. If you have a California driver's license, you can thank Cal NORML. (Joining would be better. See: http://canorml.org)

Re: “Back In the Closet

Nice job on framing the debate and telling the patients' stories. A few corrections: Sacramento County didn't ban all growing, just outdoor. Same for Concord and Martinez. Lodi extended its temporary moratorium on cultivation until Nov. 5, 2014 (the last date it can do so). It's the city of Colusa, not the county, that is looking at a cultivation ban. Fremont is considering an outdoor ban, not a total ban. San Pablo is considering banning growing inside homes (also not a total ban).
