Re: “Stop Blaming Artists and Musicians for the Ghost Ship Fire. Blame People In Power Who Screwed Up.

Libby Schaff has been a disaster as Mayor ignoring any responsibility for inspecting apartment balconies to prevent collapse or sub standard firetrap housing. She like her brethren claims there is no money to house artists and those of modest means as rents soar into the heavens a place most of these folks will never get to. And what of the fire department that claimed it couldn't get an inspector onto the premises. We suppose that if it were someone with a gun the police department would have broken the door down but the supreme indifference to life and health cost nearly forty or more lives and lifelong trauma for survivors. Oakland can do better by cleaning up City Hall calling other elected officials to task including Barbara Lee strangely silent and President Obama who is happy to go round the world killing with drones spending hundreds of millions of dollars for death and destruction while advising us to eat cake but claims we can't afford to provide decent safe housing for people or stem the endless violent crime on our streets.

Re: “Did An Oakland Cop Kill His Wife?

Libby Liibby say what? Impeding a police investigation? Add that to your resume.

Re: “Months Later, Still No Charges Against Oakland Cops Who Sexually Exploited Celeste Guap

O.Malley is a loser with perception of her incompetence being extremely high. Time to file charges and get off her duff or give it to State AG for prosecution. Damn shame that some bad apples tarnish all OPD officers and the DA is in another world as it drags its feet.

Re: “Badge of Dishonor: Top Oakland Police Department Officials Looked Away as East Bay Cops Sexually Exploited and Trafficked a Teenager

Leave it to Libby Schaaf to cover up such a sordid illegal mess. While Ms Schaaf preened herself for the cameras she proved to be a poor mayor and worse citizen lying about the exploitation by the police She should resign and be tried for colluding in this scandal. Then if convicted send her off to jail where she belongs. The DA needs to investigate this much more fully and not behind closed doors but in the light and include Kamala Harris' office that seemed woefully slow in responding or investigating. It is doubtful she will make a decent Senator and voters might want to keep her poor performance in mind when voting in the coming election.

Re: “Mayor of Oakland: 'The Most Dangerous Place in America is Donald Trump's Mouth'

Libby is lying while she primps her hair. That is something she seems quite good at. Governance less so. Oakland is quite dangerous and has a high murder and assault rate. Her attitude is that it doesn't exist so ignore it. Community policing is almost non existent and traffic enforcement a joke. The people of Oakland deserve much better. As for Mr Trump Libby is off the mark again. Altho she doesn't like him her foul mouthed comments serve nothing but to push another sound byte to voters. She should clean up her act and get out of the gutter.

Re: “Why Is There a Housing Crisis?

CAl has done next to nothing to build affordable student housing while top administrators make millions. It is shameful how this has drive rental prices to unaffordable levels not just for students but for everyone else. Plenty of building on the Cal campus but NO HOUSING. Napolitano and the gang that can't shoot straight have been a bust. Similarly they have dropped the ball on campus security exposing students to rape, assault and robbery galore.

Re: “In Praise of Old Restaurants

Landlords are like vultures ruining merchants with rate hikes that remind us of usury or gangster strong arm robbery. It seems that the landlord class in the Bay area is no exception as they toss 95 year old tenants out on the street like the heartless thugs they are or jack up rents forcing businesses to close. Oh do they go to Church on Sundays? Why do they waste their time as the pearly gates must surely be locked to such individuals. It's up to government to build out affordable spaces for restaurants or we won't have any left that are affordable and to extend rent control to commercial spaces before cities are made unlivable by them.
