Re: “It’s Time to Close the American Indian Public Charter Schools

Even these people don't expect kids from Oakland to succeed. They insist that these high grades are not a result of our hard work but rather they pick out the smartest. Maybe, this school is actually teaching kids something unlike the other schools in Oakland.

Re: “It’s Time to Close the American Indian Public Charter Schools

It is INSULTING that as a former student as this school, that our hard work is being seen in this view. Cherry picking the top students? I'm sorry but that couldn't be any less true, i transferred into the school with less then desirable grades possibly on the brink of failing. They took me in and the teachers worked with me to get my grades up. As a tutor at the school, I see kids struggling to grasp the rigorous academics at the school but with the support of the teachers and their peers, in a couple of months they are excelling in comparison to their peers in other schools. Living in Oakland, in an environment where failure was expected of me, American Indian was the only place where I was pushed to excel. It has instilled in me a belief that I can succeed.
