Re: “Couple In Charge of Ghost Ship Lost Kids to Child Protective Services While Living in Oakland Warehouse

"One guy" built a death trap and profited off the people he rented to and the people who paid to come to his events. "One guy" is indeed responsible. I've seen squats with better safety.

Re: “East Bay Environmentalists at Odds Over Future of Eucalyptus Trees

*Mudslides: live tree roots hold the soil in place. Why not move to Pacifica?
Grassfires: at least as bad as forest fires. One of the many reasons you don't live in So Cal.
*Homeless tree rats in your attic: remember the deluge of rats after the '91 fire?
*Unknown amounts of Roundup and Garlon over a large area for an unknown length of years: you eat organic, so why would you want Roundup and Garlon in your environment?
*Desertification: those hills were always forest. Now they will be desert, degrading the environment, reducing the air quality, altering your microclimate.

Re: “Racial Profiling Via Nextdoor.com

I thought the racism exposed in this article was appalling, then I saw the comments. We white people are used to going into denial about racism, which is fed to us with our mothers' milk. We don't realize that our pretending hurts people of color. We don't want to take responsibility for our actions. But we know the truth deep inside. We feel guilt and shame, especially if we consider ourselves liberal or progressive. Life is much better for everyone when we white people work on our racism. It is freeing to let go of fear and prejudice. We need to end white supremacy before the next generation is poisoned and more people of color harmed. I recommend the work of Tim Wise.

Re: “'There is No Such Thing As a Child Prostitute'

I've known commercially sexually exploited children who explained that they would rather have sex with strangers than be raped by family members or molested by a foster parent. Some of them have the illusion of control and feel they have made an independent decision, rather than being manipulated and controlled.

And why doesn't this article mention the fine, upstanding citizens who buy children for sex? Chances are they molest their own children as well, being pedophiles and/or ephebephiles. (An ephebephile is an adult who is attracted to young teens. They generally don't want kids who can pass for over 18, either. It's the vulnerability of youth that attracts them. ) They should be charged as child molesters and put on Megan's List, in my opinion.

Alan Remick just happens to have the same name as a NRC employee. OK. Google my name and you get a character from the soap opera "Dallas," so anything is possible.

Re: “Fukushima Panic

Alan Remick,

Are you the same Alan Remick who works for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission? If so, why didn't you identify yourself? Your ad hominem attack on Dr. Wolman was completely uncalled for. You dragged people like Mercola into the discussion as a strawman argument. Unable to hold your own in a civil discussion, you became irrational. Doesn't the nuclear industry have a better shill? Maybe they need to hire underground guerilla marketers to comment on articles.
