Re: “It's Time to Restrict Groundwater Pumping in California

It takes three gallons to produce one walnut and one gallon to produce one almond. If we continue to allow the mega farm to bleed the life out of California, where will we live. Look we have enough water for one year. By then the cash cow will drop to her knees.

Re: “Letters for the Week of January 7, 2015

How does one put a price, on the name Ahwahnee? So if they lose the contract, will it be called the Marriott hotel ? It's something that needs to be resolved before a new contract is signed. No sense in kicking the can down the road.

Re: “A Barrier to Proposition 1?

OK, here's my take on the subject. Why would we build dams in a drought? It's like opening a bank account, when you're broke. It would seem we would be spending money on ways to protect the water we have. Like meters in every home. In my town only half have meters. We can't afford it, that's a shame. We could also give tax breaks to those who remove lawns that use lots of water. Then there is the cost, why do we think we have 40 years to repay, is this rational If there is a drought and people do move out of Calif, who will be left to pay? ON Oct 16 TH we had a earthquake drill. Why because we feel the next big one is coming. Will we have enough to pay for such an event? Reading this article it mention conservancies, 1 billion are you kidding me. Conservation measures yes, prop 1 no. Have a nice day

Re: “When the Water Runs Out

You can't cover the aqueduct. The system isn't what it use to be when built. It's sinking in spots. Why because the aquifers are being depleated and the ground sinks with no water. It might work if water never reaches the top. In that case where ever there is a low spot the cover wil be ripped apart. We don't have kind of money anyway.

Re: “It's Time to End the Death Penalty Nightmare

I think the firing squad would be a welcome sight, to people who have lost a loved one. To allow people to get away with murder is cruel. We as a society need to punish those who have no regard for life. Will it be messy . What about having them dig a hole first then stand in front. When they get shot they fall in and no mess. We are to soft on crime. Look our prisons are full. If we go back to breaking rocks and firing squads, maybe, just maybe, will get back to normal. I know you want them to get better medical then most voters, better food than most citizens and a gym and controlled heat and cooling. If their on death row shoot them lets get something done stop this gridlock.

Re: “A Battle for Profits

Wait for two more years are you kidding me. Minimum wage hasn't been raised in five years. We work hard, only to watch others get raises every year. I'm surprised others who pay taxes aren't upset, as I am. These large companies who hire part time with low wages are using the system to avoid benefits. Now their trying to avoid a decent wage. Follow the fine example Seattle as well as four other states (Maryland, Michigan, Hawaii and Massachusetts. They reward hard work. They put respect back in working hard. Look most of the money will be spent here at home, it's a win, win.

Re: “Berkeley Sides With Living Wage Violators

Am I missing something? Is there more to this story? Seattle has raised it's minimum wage, and four other states as well. Did he fail to preform his job correctly? Or is this a case of, "unlawful job termination".
