Re: “Dozens of Renters Lose Homes as City Closes 1919 Market Street Warehouse in Oakland

Enforcement or lack of enforcement is a sticky issue that is often the prime reason for displacement. There is supposed to be a separation of powers to protect citizens. But we are fast losing any separation or any protections for individual rights. The courts are our last resort. Good for the people who can and do fight those battles.

Re: “The True Sharing Economy

Glad to see others questioning the "sharing" concept as it is being used to describe anyone with an app that feeds the public online demand for services. The only sharing going on is among investors.

Re: “Oakland's Sweeping Plan for Parking

If you are smart you will fight it. This is another brand of forced scarcity that is driving up the cost of living. They started it with food and now they are using it with every other thing you may possibly need to survive. Ever wonder why your water bill gets higher when you use less water? The same principal applies.
Either you live the way you want or you live the way the government tells you to live. Don't give up another right. Stop them now!

Re: “Turning Housing into Hotels

I was just told by a realtor that there are over 20,000 units off the rental market in San Francisco. How many of these are short term rentals? If SF residents pass Prop F we may find out. If Prop F passes the internet services will be responsible for registering all the the hosts that support and we will know for sure where they are. More on Prop F:

Re: “Oakland Sticks to Backward Thinking

You should publish the whereabouts of the empty parking garages near BART. I'm sure lots of people would like to know where they are.

Re: “Oyster Company's Appeal Is a Sham

Don't know about you, but I like to eat, and the idea of cutting off 40% of the shellfish California produced during the middle of a drought, creating more scarcity and higher food prices does not feel like a smart move on the part of our government. In case you aren't familiar with oysters, they clean the water. The shells they produce are non-toxic.
These kind of moves by against food producers are driving up prices all over the country and will hurt a lot of incumbent Democrats in November.

Re: “Why Gentrification Is Not Inevitable

I think we start by agreeing that there is a solution that can protect everyone. Some of the negative comments and anger that is coming into the Bay Area now is appalling. People need to respect each other.

There are a number of Ellis Act amendments under consideration in Sacramento. The SF Supervisors running for state office are in a race to get bills written that mitigate the problem at a local level. Here is the article on the latest one: San Francisco Supervisors Approve Bigger Payouts For Ellis Act Evictions:…

One CEQA case linking the tech buses to a specific eviction is headed for an appeal: Bus Blocking protesters call out Google staffer who's allegedly trying to evict Guerrero Street tenants:…
