Re: “Shifting Gears: Oakland's Bicycling Future

75 year-old East Bay (Berkeley-Oakland) cycling veteran. I've cycled Telegraph, Oakland-Berkeley over the years. My focus is survival, not bicycling advocacy. I will use the walkway if necessary, or cycle against traffic. A bike lane is just a target-zone, as I see it. I will cycle the wrong way, menace pedestrians, annoy drivers. Whatever seems self-protective. To cycle in the streets to advocate for bike commuting is not for me. I expect to be hit, and cycle accordingly. Agree with above post "Don't let the bike lane and pretty views fool you."

Re: “Top Twelve Dive Bars in the East Bay

I lived a block from Baggy's By the Bay in the late 70s. I've visited as recently as three years ago. Yeah, this is the ultimate dive. But what about that piano bar near Grand Lake theater. Don't forget Kip's, Berkeley, a 50s student dive, still diving.
