It is still a lot worse than it is being depicted. Methane (CH4) is now gushing up from the Arctic ocean floor in kilometer wide plumes (Simelitov, 12/11). The current level of CO2 is the same level that existed at the time of the Pliocene 3 MYA when the oceans were 90 ft deeper. We are headed to CO2 levels that existed at the time of the dinosaurs (Cretaceous) and the oceans were 200 ft deeper.

Are we satisfied with that? No, of course not. We are now going crazy with fracking which releases methane (CH4) from rock. Methane is now bubbling up in Pennsylvania creeks. Huge releases of methane are thought to be the cause of the Paleo-Eocene Themal Maximum (when tropical plants lived at the poles) and the Permian anoxic event which helped cause the extinction of 95% of life on the planet.

The scientists, far from being fear mongers, have been not really telling people what could really happen.
