Dear Mr. Field:
You may be wondering why someone from Texas is writing you about KBLX, a station in San Francisco.
I have only recently relocated to the Austin area, but until then, I was a resident of San Francisco. I began listening to KBLX in 1979 and continued until I left. I did check in on their website when I could.
Although the format has changed slightly since I began listening, the offerings were still unique. In my opinion, one of the very best things about KBLX was Kevin Brown and the Morning Show. It was clear that they all enjoyed each other’s company and transmitted that happiness to the listeners. What better way to start the day with a smile on your face given to you by folks who seemed like old friends.
No disrespect to Steve Harvey, but if you think that he can replace “The Love Doctor”, “The Battle of the Sexes”, “The Battle of the Ages”, or “The Dumb Bunny of the Day”, I believe that you are mistaken. These were very personal to the Bay Area and cannot be replaced by a tape-delayed show from New York.
If your purpose was just to buy a radio station and a building, then you most likely have succeeded. If your purpose was to buy a radio station and to keep its loyal followers, then I believe you have most likely made an error in judgment. With the advent of internet radio, we’ll find out where Kevin and his crew went and follow him there.
Please don’t kill “Soft and Warm, the Quiet Storm” and reconsider your position: re-hire Kevin and his staff!
