Re: “Alameda County Prosecutor Can't Charge Seven Cops in East Bay Sex Crime Case Because Victim Sent to Florida by Richmond Police

What keeps the DA from charging--then requiring the witness to return for the prosecution? One would think there is an abundance of evidence for filing.

Re: “Cops That Worked at Richmond Schools Now Under Investigation for Alleged Sexual Misconduct with Former Student

The concept of placing responsibility for the conduct of adult POLICE OFFICERS on a teenager is beyond disgusting--it must come from all the adult males in government, "law enforcement, " and all those positions of power that attract sociopaths and child molesters--I can't contain my wish to castrate all those pretenders to morality on behalf of all who are subjected to their posing and filth.

Re: “LoBot Gallery, Mainstay of Oakland’s DIY Art and Music Scenes, to Shutter at End of Month

First thing in my mind--sick and city suicide. Maybe the baby going with the bathwater, but there's evil there that takes this out of that low level idiocy. This is sick.

Re: “#LibbyLeaks: Oakland Mayor Launches Investigation Against City and Police Whistleblowers

Ali Winston, and Darwin BondGraham, are real journalists and have been for a good long time. And the East Bay Express is a real newspaper, printing the truth researched and written by Winston and BondGraham.

So, Mr. Boom, if the way a newspaper is folded means that much to you, and you need to have your "news" created and vetted by multiple layers of government and corporate control, by all means choose that one (or five, or more). But remember the truth is somewhere else.

Re: “The Real Reason Why Oakland's Police Chief Was Fired

I am having a hard time with all this astonishment and sudden disgust. OPD'S reputation has been the worst, for years, for good reason. And city government has allowed and abetted OPD's behavior in exchange for the abuse of nonwhite and low income and unruly protesting, not to enforce laws but to make the city comfy for developers and gentrified and upper crust.

The deal was made years ago. The power given to OPD fits right into what we already know--power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Anyone paying attention has seen what's going on, or is part of it.

Just stop the astonishment, nobody believes you.

Re: “Tenant Advocates say Oakland Officials Delaying and Obstructing Rent Control Ballot Measure

We know the Oakland City Council's concern with procedure, analysis, reports will delay and possibly kill the measure we need to stop terrific damage to the real, the ordinary, the working and disadvantaged, the people that created and continue to be the city of Oakland.

This is simply the latest of Council maneuvers to create an Oakland of money being spent and profits being taken, a city being measured by the apparent prosperity of people walking on otherwise unpopulated sidewalks. They will be distant from coal shipping and other moneymaking, and working people trying to live close enough to their work to survive without leaving this city--which must be the Oakland City Council's goal because that's what will happen without a huge change.

If that change is created, we'll owe a lot to journalists and writers like Darwin BondGraham and J. P. Massar, and the thousands of Oakland and other Bay Area citizens who risk themselves in working for it.

Re: “Oakland Hotel Workers and Chinatown Groups Urge City Not to Approve New Hotel Because of Alleged Wage Theft

The employees that reported and verified wage theft, denial of breaks, take back of sick leave and vacation time, were not all union members by a long shot. The going on about unions is a completely unrelated issue brought into this discussion to troll it off track, just like the smiling workers concept. All that meant is that they were mentally healthy people with a healthy work ethic, not that they aren't being gouged and mistreated by their employers.

This kind of thing is why United Here organized and continued to organize. Commenters dithering about unions --what is wrong with that, anyway? Unions are the workers that organize to protect themselves against employers exactly like this.

An investigation is in progress that will have nothing to do with what a "nice" family the Patels are, or how many hotels Oakland needs (??). All are strange reasons to allow wage stealing or violations of city and federal work rules.

Thank the gods for the East Bay Express and its eye on machinations that without attention would result in a city without pity--and without integrity.
