John Tango Iversen is the only native (in both senses of the term) Northamerican singing tango in Argentina and the USA. "HE SINGS TANGO LIKE…

From John Iversen, Berkeley. Sadly the most ignored fact anywhere has been reported by the Guardian. Native people are killed at a rate 50% higher than blacks by police: 5.4 million to 3.6 million per capita. We are ignored, hidden away in rural areas with no TV cameras or even newspapers to report the murders. I am waiting on Color of Change or another POC group to do something for native people. NATIVE LIVES MATTER! LEONARD'S LIFE MATTERS! This is why I urge readers to support Nanci-Armstrong-Temple. Darryl Moore has become a tool of big $$ developers, abstained on a clemency for Peltier resolution, and has become the Mary Wainwright he once defeated. And don't get me started on his personal life! I am no angel and neither is he! John Iversen
Love Rob! glad he's back. Very erudite and spot on. This week an absence has been a very useful asset, as I always try to take on way too much!

Just another organization Gwen rowe Lee ran into the ground, much like AMHI or giving contract to friends at EM cleaning (Elijah Mohammad). giving jobs to family and friends. Keith Carson got hip to her doings and gov't funding began to evaporate. AMHI was guilty of double dipping. Getting two grants of say $40,000 but only half went to AMHI.
Like the East Bay AIDSWALK (kicked my org Friends of Ugandan Orphans out) She packed board of overseer: East Bay AIDS Advocacy Foundation which had not met in 2 years just to throw me out over objections from now Summit Director Steve O'Brien, Hazel Wesson and Steve Chase, formerly of Walgreens. If Steve was not there getting Walgreens to help out (1/2 the walkers). Gloria Cox Cowell, Adreinn Mc Call are bellicose opportunists (much like Black Agenda Reports' Glen ford spoke of Susan Rice. Deanna roberts totally incompetent as $1000s of $ specified for a certain org went to the general walk in2012? sometime around there. No walk in 2015, the 2016 wALK WAS in March. No 990s ever sent to me. robert and sam, yet another AIDS org to examine! John Iversen Free Leonard Peltier! co-founder Occupy AIDS, Act Up East Bay, both berk and Oak needle exchanges, worked 30 years alongside Maudelle Shirek (RIP 101.75--exemplary life for sure! If anything Sam was easy on her as he did not know her previous philandering, double dipping, nepotism, cronyism
This article is a long time coming. Gwen Rowe-Lee has long been known for her nepotism, cronyism and double dipping (the latter at AMHI. When they were open one day a week, did she cut her salary by 80%. Totally in it for herself nad family and friends. John Iversen, the longest term AIDS survivor in the East Bay.
thanks for a class-based review
A note in defense of Rachel Swann who reviewed by CD, "El Norteamericano que Canta Tango" and got what traditional tango-cancion is all about. She is at least familiar with the King of the Tango, Carlos Gardel and the genre. Sadly there is a huge gulf between tango singers and tango dancers in the Bay Area that I find hard to breach and also find that most dancers have not heard of Gardel or tango's queen, Nelly Omar. My first appearance at a milonga in the US will be in Minneapolis, July 3 as my offers to sing free in the Bay area have gone ignored, as re my full page review in El Clarin, Argentina's most read daily. invitations to appear this fall at Julia Doynel's milongas , appearance on radio nacional argentina in 2010 and at least two more radio shows in BA coming up. frankly I expected more support in the Bay Area. I was told by one TangoQueer gatekeper that the music was not danceable so he couldn't help me. He should have known that there are sit down concerts in BAires and that singers appear during breaks in the milongas. I was also asked by him change the lyrics to songs that are mostly non-sex specific! Another QueerTango member refused to promote my CD release party because the yoga studio holding the event did not allow shoes on it's floor. I still support the tango community here and am housing folks for the Queer Tango festival in SF, June 25-7. I would hope that others in the Bay area will give me and other singers a chance, for it's not just a dance. Rachel's article is welcomed. It has given the Bay Area tango community, through it's letters and comments, a chance to promote, both dance and song.
