Re: “Cut the Music, Bring the Noise at the Solano Stroll”
@ GK "Carol Denney has been an *open* political activist for some time and her music has oft-incorporated a lot of anti-establishment/anti-commercialism themes. There's nothing wrong with an artist wanting earnings for their work. On the other hand, there's something rotten in Denmark when an artist makes a political statement one moment but says/does something completely contradictory the next."
I take exception to the personal nature of your comments about Denney, as if her beliefs and politics somehow negate the validity of her argument. She didn't say that SHE wants to get paid for performing; she said that she wants ALL MUSICIANS to be paid, even if only a token amount. That fact has been missing from this debate all along. Hers is not a selfish act, but much more a selfless one. To use the "rotten in Denmark" rhetoric stinks because Hamlet's famous remark was in protest of profound corruption, and here you use it to smear the character of an individual. Shame.
