Oakland, Berkeley, And East Bay News, Events, Restaurants, Music, & Arts
The Berkeley Rose Garden is one of the most visited sites in Berkeley and not to be missed any time of the year. The event promises to be one of the most gratifying and fun filled event of the year. Do not miss it.
It appears that the person that wrote the Spanish sign is not fluent in Spanish.
I don't believe this was racial at all. I think that if the patrons had been whites the same would have happened.
One other note on the subject. Since Salazar is the Secretary of the Interior his job if about the environment and not about precedents.
A note from the New England Aquarium on oyster farming:
Oysters are an ocean-friendly seafood choice because they are farmed with relatively low impact on the environment. Oysters do not require additional feed inputs such as fish meal from wild-capture fisheries. Instead, they filter-feed on tiny particles, plankton, and organic matter found in the water column. Therefore, oysters are self-sustaining and can actually improve local water quality. Oysters can be farmed without adding chemicals or antibiotics that can be harmful to the surrounding environment. Farming oysters can also reduce fishing pressure on wild oyster populations that have suffered from overfishing, pollution and habitat destruction.
I still can't understand why Salazar thinks it is OK to drill, but not OK to farm. Is it because the oil and gas companies have deeper pockets than an oyster farms? Something smells fishy. Further there is no proof that oyster farms are hurting the environment. In Cape Cod, where the best oysters in the world come from, they welcome oyster farmers. Farming oysters in Cape Cod Bay has a long tradition and has done zero damage to the environment.
If the Firemen's Union is in favor of Measure T, then why are they backing a candidate for Citycouncil that opposes it?
The Berkeley firefighters’ union has endorsed the measure in part because the new development would likely generate at least $6 million in permit-fee revenues for the city alone, said David Ross, a retired Berkeley firefighter who is still active in the union and was part of the local Berkeley endorsement process.
I prefer the Orinda Grill for fried chicken.
