Re: “A New Lake Merritt Dog Park?

The Fairyland Site is A Risky Choice
Any effort to move the dog park to another location is a risky choice for dog owners. Right now there is a big move to STOP the dog park at Lakeview but who knows if there will be political will, follow through and funding to CREATE a new dog park at another location. Who is going to champion a new location once the bruhaha dies down? Where is the political will to build rather than destroy? Who is going to convince the naysayers to the Fairyland location?

City projects simply do not get completed in the 12-18 months suggested by the SAP people. And the costs increase with every city meeting, with every year that goes by and with every cut in budget. Who is putting up the money for this location? Who is hired to staff the project for the city? Lack of definitive answers to these questions put any new project at high risk. Better to move ahead with the project as planned at Lakeview and make sure we have a functioning dog park sooner rather than maybe never.
