Neither the story nor the first five comments mention the running costs, and potential for cost overruns. Piedmont JUST went through a crisis where a utility undergrounding project whose costs were to be covered by the residents rather than the City, went more than 100% over budget, those costs got dumped onto the entire City's residents, and it wiped out our financial cushion at the worst possible moment. This will not be a $5.5 million project, and the donors' inability to come up with $65K upfront shows what will happen when it goes over budget--the rest of us will have to bail them out. We bailed out those in the rich side of town once; we shouldn't bail out these wealthy donors a second time.
