Re: “Adult Education Dismantled

I'd wager that mike_hardesty7909a names the usual scapegoat for most everything that is wrong with this USofA. Too much BIG, BLOATED GOVERNMENT interfering in the lives of ordinary citizens. Let me venture a guess...one trillion and one times he's yelled DAMN DEMOCRATS with his wallet and vote.

Unfortunately, there are many under served people in this community who do need help to learn English, Math, etc. with government programs because they certainly would not get the opportunity through any corporate largesse. There are young people out there who deserve another chance to get a High School Diploma because they dropped out the first time around. Adult Education classes provide that opportunity. There are new immigrants who need to learn English to integrate into the community and to find decent employment. There are seniors who want to learn how to use a computer so they can communicate with family via e-mail. And, there are many more who benefit from a diverse and rich Adult Education program.

I'd rather be a bleeding heart and help level the playing field for those less fortunate than a heartless ? who looks around and sees only himself.

Re: “Libraries on the Brink

The books, magazines, DVDs, etc. that are housed in a library are a portal to imagination, inspiration and literacy. We need that resource in our communities. In fact, some families do not have a car or even money for a bus pass to ride all over town looking for an open library. Why deny them an accessible library?

A sliding scale fee-based library card might be an answer...
