Re: “Monday Must Read: Gas Prices Could Derail Climate Change Law; Japan Disaster Could Dampen Nuclear Power Revival”
In New Zealand they are now asking industries to pay for wood stove changeout programs for their carbon offsets. Offsetting is a ridiculous idea that those benefitting financially from it have failed to be clear on. Gas, oil and electric can pollute as much as they want if they can find the offset. Self sufficient wood heating consumers get placed in the firing line. The death statistics are there because of the funding from corporate enterprise to produce these ridiculous computer models that lack scientific credibility. They're there to sound scary and convince policy makers and gullable public that think because it sounds scientific it must be. If the same amount of pollution research was published on nuclear, gas, oil and other forms of energy I'm sure the public would be convinced more toward what is plain common sense. Technology for energy self sufficiency evolves us and protects our lives in the event of natural disaster as well as protecting us financially. There is flue technology that stops woodsmoke for example. Anyway surviving the cold, nuclear radiation, gas explosions, oil spills and poverty is always going to be more important than fine carbon particulates, which in most cases are not concentrated enough to cause an issue. What has more chance of killing us and affecting the health of our families.
