Oakland, Berkeley, And East Bay News, Events, Restaurants, Music, & Arts
It's a sad day when a City like Oakland can do better than the Governor of California Jerry Brown.
Kudos to all the public workers unions for their good will, and understanding that ultimately it is the citizens and taxpayers of Oakland who are paying their wages and who stand to lose the most if all of their services get cut.
Informative article. Thanks.
I don't understand how these could possibly be police department priorities when due to the low number of officers we constantly read that there is a dearth of officers on patrol and community policing assignments cannot be fulfilled. Also, that there are no officers for investigations. How did these establishments suddenly become high crime priorities?
This is an informative and disturbing article and comments about how difficult the life of a police officer are are clearly irrelevant and don't address the issue of inappropriate police raids, priorities and heavy-handed tactics. Just because police have difficult jobs does not preclude a mindset that often can often transition into to thuggish and goonish behavior in the blink of an eye.
I believe it's dereliction of duty to not meet with city council members around the proposed gang injunction if that is Russo's responsibility and what he is being paid for. Councilwoman Brooks in this regard was right to call out Russo. The industrial pot farms are another matter. Also, he shouldn't be moonlighting.
Anthony Batts is having problems with Quan too but as long as you're being paid to do a job you should do it. If you don't want to do that job anymore, then you should resign. But you shouldn't always expect things to go your way. And if you take a strong stance, you should be prepared to catch flack for it.
