Re: “Climate Change Will Unleash Buried Toxics

Climate change happens during the natural life span of the planet. It's been going on since Earth coalesced. Get used to it! To believe we puny humans can stop it is the height of arrogance. What bothers me are the folks [usually left-wingers] who want to punish everyone whose behavior isn't "sustainably correct". Better to worry about all the trash approaching our shores from the tsunami.

Re: “The Enthusiasm of Romney Voters

How about: Comedians will be able to lampoon their president again! There just isn't much amusing about Prez Obama.

Re: “A New Vision for Alameda Point

It's the Restoration Advisory Board [not Resident]. There are no more ARRA meetings, since Gov. Brown dissolved redevelopment agencies;however, there will be a Regular Alameda City Council meeting that date/time; agenda TBA.

Re: “Friday Must Read: Redistricting Commission Releases New Maps; Alameda Firefighters Argued Against Cutting Water Rescue

1.: Note carefully the details in the original story:”toxicology report showed Zack did not have alcohol or narcotics in his system when he died”. Those are “cop drugs”. It does NOT say:”had no drugs in his system”. Antidepressants, antianxiety agents, & antipsychotics are not narcotics They might be expected in the system of someone w/a psychiatric history, & DO cause suicidal ideation & core temperature dysregulation. I repeat: walking into the bay from a sandy Alameda beach w/your feet on the bottom & your head above water is not a likely way to drown. People do it every day & live! It’s not like jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. Or even falling out of a boat. Everyone’s so focused on the irrelevant “water-rescue” aspect of this tragedy & assigning blame that they’re missing the point. To prevent something like this from happening again, we need to know WHY he “drowned”. Right now, there is no known medical reason why his actions led to his death. And I doubt that the present mode of investigation, being performed by one lone firefighter, will reveal it.

Re: “The Battle for Lawrence Berkeley Lab

Alameda is a much safer place to walk, jog, ride your bike, or park your car near the Lab than Richmond, Oakland, Berkeley, or Emeryville. And a shuttle bus could easily take lab workers & visitors to the fine reasonably priced restaurants throughout Alameda. Alameda is a logical choice for the future of LBNL.

Re: “An Alameda Power Play?

Thanks for an excellent succinct summary of this chapter in Alameda's political history! So SunCal thinks the concept of the people of Alameda directing Alameda Point development was Gallant's idea? As a Planning Board member when NAS was decommissioned (1997), I can say that concept was in place long before Gallant ever became Interim City Manager. Gallant was just doing her job, listening to the Alamedans who really care about how post-NAS development will affect the quality of life on the entire island, not just harvesting property tax revenues and lining the pockets of a private developer. I hope our city doesn't settle this one, because that would set another precedent for developers churning our city land, tying it up in lawsuits, then walking away with settlement profits, making us all wish we were living somewhere else.
It will also be interesting to see if Gilmore, Bonta, & Tam ever vote independently of each other on any items of substance.
