What a Berkeley "progressive" sounds like:

Re: “A Recap of East Bay Express Endorsements

It's important to know that Berkeley has 30,000 people commuting into the city a day. We need more workforce housing - below market affordable and affordable to mid-income ranges. You get the latter by increasing housing supply and bringing rents down. Yes, someone will make money building this housing. Some people in Berkeley think that's a good enough reason to oppose new housing, but I'm sure that if you ask people spending unnecessary time in their car commuting every day (and creating traffic and pollution) I think they'd opt for convenient, environmentally responsible housing choices. That's why I'm voting Yes on Measure R. If Berkeley expands housing opportunity, maybe we can regain some of the diversity we've lost.

Re: “A Recap of East Bay Express Endorsements

The Chicago developer has been a presence in the downtown for the past 3 years as owner/manager of all of Patrick Kennedy's former buildings.

They are just starting the process on their first project in Berkeley and have hired a local architect who is highly respected by local preservationists.

They're supporting a ballot measure that calls for all buildings to be LEED Gold.

It's in their interest for the downtown to be a more attractive place to live and it just so happens also to be in the interest of environmentalists and all other endorsing organizations. A coalition like this is positive to see in Berkeley: http://www.yesonmeasurer.info/endorsements
