I bought a solar oven because I hated overheating the house cooking dinner in the summertime. A well-built solar oven gets hot enough to bake bread - yes, with a good sturdy crust. I use mine routinely in clear weather, and generally get temperatures of 250-300 F.
I actually bought a second one this year, so I don't have to cook in shifts when I'm baking "stock" foods - bread, pot-o-beans, broths to use in sauces, etc.
