Re: “Oakland Police Hurt Themselves

The city needs to understand that investing in public safety, is an investment in future revenue for the city. Businesses dont want to open up in crime infested areas. Only drug farms who will hire armed security will open there.

I have seen first hand that the city council who were in the riot, were on the side of the protestors to further their selfish goals. There was a man in a blue and white shirt following Kaplan with flyers that said "Kaplan for mayor".

Kaplan was attempting to win the people over in the demonstration by taking sides with them. Since the protest was against the police Kaplan and Quan also took a stand against the police.

Oakland has become a haven for criminals from all around the Bay. In a city where the govenrnment appreciates looting, and refers to it as "character" (as Dellums did )we have no chance for growth. There are areas of Oaklnd that greatly resemble third world countries. The criminal element there are dug in deep, and they know that the city has imposed such harsh restrictions on the police force that the police are helpless to do anything about it.

The Oakland police department is very smart and capable group. Given the right support, and allowed to do their jobs, without being handcuffed by radical anti police left wing government types, there would be a sharp decrese in crime there. Forget about the money, as an officer, you can get paid much more in a city that does a third of the work. these oakland cops work for pride and dignity. The city government sold them out, and in turn sold out the citizens. And they smile and attend demonstrations and rally for what ever cause seems popular at that time, to gain votes. They continue to use the media to manipulate the people. Its a shame how they let the city go so bad and in the end blame it on the cops pension for doing it. every city in the bay area has a police force. Those cities seem to be weathering the storm a whole lot better, and without pointing fingers.
