I was surprised and disappointed that NO lesbians were interviewed by the author of this article (a woman). There are MANY aging lesbians living in the East Bay. EBE is USUALLY more aware.

Re: “The Fat Lady Sings

I've been visiting "The Fat Lady"" in JLS since I've lived in Oakland - 30+ years. LOVE it! Take your visiting friends/family for an extraordinary weekend brunch - my personal favorite - OR lunch/dinner, to this JLS destination. The atmosphere, particularly during holidays, i.e. Halloween; December, when the space is decorated is a reason in itself to visit, all by itself. The first time I took my (then) 12 year old granddaughter Rachel to "TFL" (now 30), her eyes opened wide and she asked if I was taking her to a bar. The 3 generation family/owners are delightful people. Patricia ENJOYS creating new food experiences for her guests. GO - ENJOY !!

Re: “BREAKING NEWS: JEAN QUAN TAKES LEAD IN MAYOR'S RACE

I have already WON 15 cents betting that we would NOT have "FINAL" results as promised by Alameda County Registrar of Voters. Rebecca Kaplan was ACTUALLY the BEST Candidate, since Nancy Nadel chose NOT to run for Mayor of Oakland in this election. I'll take Jean Quan over tired - should be REtired Don Perata. There was a time he was GOOD. Not in 2010.

Re: “Protests Begin in Oakland

I LIVE in downtown Oakland - the violence last year was NOT by the peaceful demonstrators, in support of Oscar Grant, but tag-along thugs that obviously welcomed an excuse to vent their hatred, destroy property and show off for their friends. The next morning, I witnessed first hand the results: cars that had been parked along 17th Street had their windshields smashed; large waste containers had been tossed into the street - it must have taken at least two people to shove them. Windows of small business owners, many of them black and supporters of Oscar Grant, came to work to find the windows smashed, and many stores looted - NOT BY THE PROTESTORS! The same is probably TRUE today as well. With ALL the urging by religious and community leaders, musicians and radio stations offering the angry citizens to express their views via peaceful means, there will still be a handful of thugs - probably not even Oakland residents, eager to be destructive and brag about it to their friends
