Re: “Oakland Goes Veg

I'm glad to see the compassionate treatment of animals being promoted here. Go Oakland Veg Week! And a big thumbs up to Nancy Nadel, Wilma Chan, Keith Carson, and Congresswoman Barbara Lee! See you at Homeroom for some vegan dessert!

I'm pro-pickle.

This one seems less stupid than your example - "The slaughterhouse or killing room shall be separate from any room where stock or poultry are fed."

Re: “City of Oakland Shuts Down Novella Carpenter's Urban Farmstand

While you might be able to raise livestock on your property, you can't slaughter them. Nobody in Oakland can operate a slaughterhouse. It's not controversial, it's right there in the municipal code along with the dozens of other regulations controlling meat and slaughter - which are unnecessary because "it is unlawful for any person to establish or maintain any slaughterhouse"

Re: “Why ABC Security Lost Its City Hall Contract

Robert,

I guess that's the problem with all this speculation, we'll never know... and it doesn't really matter anyway. Perhaps the police union doesn't trust Jean Quan? Only Nixon could go to China... pretty funny I know.

Re: “Why ABC Security Lost Its City Hall Contract

I'm not exactly sure what Don Perata has to do with this but OK as long as we're speculating on what might have happened... Had Don Perata been elected I think it's a "safe bet" that we'd have the police contributing 9% to their pension.

One other minor thing... I'm sure Perata would be surprised to find out he's in retirement - http://www.californiansforacure.org/

Re: “Perata Refuses to List Job Title on Ballot

Yawn.... How seriously are we to take this job title thing? Arnie Fields is listed as "Visionary". Real strict criteria.
