Re: “Is Oakland Animal Services Killing Too Many Dogs?

problemshelter - why do you say that what oasvolunteer has stated is untrue? Do you have any direct experience and knowledge of what happens at OAS? And by the way, OAS DOES list animals on Craigslist AND holds off-site adoptions events. We were at the EBSPCA event at Jack London Square this Sunday. Where were you?

While a good idea, this doesn't address the issue of backyard breeders who will still be able to "rehome" on Craigslist (classifieds are exempt).

I'm not trivializing euthanasia nor am I condoning any "misdeeds". I sincerely asked you, what are we to do? Give up? Forget about the animals we CAN help? Do you have any positive ideas on how to implement the changes needed?

Re: “Is Oakland Animal Services Killing Too Many Dogs?

So what, we throw up our arms in disgust and abandon animals that ARE being helped at OAS? That we make a bad situation worse? That we completely give up because things aren't done the way we'd like? I for one can't do that.

Re: “Is Oakland Animal Services Killing Too Many Dogs?

So let me see here. You're advocating NOT helping OAS in any way because of their euthanasia rate and ONLY helping shelters that have no problems? I thought the point of volunteering time or money was to help those in need. Yes, euthanasia is horrible. Does that mean we completely abandon the animals that are NOT put down?
