Re: “Is Oakland Animal Services Killing Too Many Dogs?

Well, here is one policy we could probably all agree would be a good thing if Oakland could get it implemented:

San Francisco is proposing a pet sale ban.

Re: “Is Oakland Animal Services Killing Too Many Dogs?

Thanks Donna for bringing some civility to this discussion. I like your idea of having a mediated meeting of interested groups, where tempers can be kept in check and a time line for a productive discussion can be enforced. In this format the meeting could be held on "neutral territory" and the normal hierarchies could be ignored -- people could speak as equals, face to face. Often times the quiet people who can't win a yelling match in a raucous argument have the most valuable things to say. It is time we heard from the people who's voices have been silenced thus far. There needs to be a way for the public, volunteers, and staff to offer meaningful criticism to OAS without fear of reprisal.

You can download the raw data and data summary tables that I got through the public records request on my blog:

I think the clear answer to the question the article poses, "Is OAS killing too many dogs?" is a resounding "yes."
