Re: “Berkeley Bowl Turns Down Union — Again

A big THANK YOU to Mr Yasuda for all his fair minded outreach to the workers. We are indeed now a stronger company.

Another big one to UFCW Local 5 for creating 83 internal "union-busters". A new hope rises in the hearts of all oppressed Bay Area Local 5 dues $ paying unfortunates- decertification works.

The civic minded should also consider supporting efforts to make California a Right-To-Work State, not a Forced-Unionism slave state.

Re: “Berkeley Bowl Union Gets Off the Mat

steal some confidential records, send in ringers to work up the employees, file some harassing lawsuits, spread a few lies amongst the public...standard Local5 gameplan but alas, standard Local5 failure. twice. Henneberry is off his game, probably just counting those days until his executive pension kicks in.

Good luck on your Power-Trip, Mr Ex-bowlsteward.

Companies create jobs, not parasites.

Re: “Berkeley Bowl Turns Down Union — Again

Just an observation but this union was exploiting the marginally motivated and the insecure workers here by promising job security regardless of performance. I suppose those "free, union bought lunches" weren't enough (yes, we saw several of you!). We are now a stronger workforce and a better community partner, something that San Jose Union never provided.
I'd say the UFCW needed a new game plan or at least some new ideas (staff change and reps that actually care, anyone?).
Oh well, they have plenty of California contracts up for renewal this year. Just watch how much of the workers' pay that the UFCW is willing to bargain away (like in 2003-2004), just to keep those dues $ flowing.

I'm using my ex-dues to improve my family's well being, with a little fun day, now and again.

Re: “Berkeley Bowl Union Gets Off the Mat

Yep, that's right StevenD, Henneberry and his Droog Gang were intimidating us with threats of retaliation. One told me that I would never have a successful grievance if I didn't vote for this union (and if they won). Well, I didn't. And I won't. Now we are hearing the same cocky threats again. Bullys with a grudge. Henneberry loves to pick on the little guys, that's why Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are given a pass. bowtemp (above) obviously wants to dictate to the business owner that they have to keep marginal and unreliable workers. That's bad business and no good for our community.

Re: “Workers at Berkeley Bowl Boot Their Union

An unofficial "Berkeley Bowl watchdog" group? Could it be any clearer that these blowhards do NOT respect the workers rights?
Hey, Local 5, keep your greedy hands out of our pockets!!! How about sending 8 organizers 8 hours a day, for a MONTH to WalMart (where you are needed), or out to Whole Foods (where you are not needed)?
Try putting your money where your mouth is.

Re: “Berkeley Bowl Workers Throw Out Union

Mr Hungus is exactly correct, the union reps are only engaged when the crisis of a contract renewal is at stake. One could only grade the union performance of the last 5 years as a C- or D. After making sure the initiation fees are paid, it's Adios, Amigos. The monthly dues pays for Mr Henneberry's free gas and vehicle, not representation.
