Can we stop regurgitating the 35%-40% number Live Nation like to spit out? A cusory look at the numbers and we will see that they are booking bands at venues that are too big for the band. For instance, the recent Jakob Dylan show in Los Angeles sold just over 800 tickets at The Wiltern. The capacity at The Wiltern for this show was just over 1800. The House of Blues which is another Live Nation owned venue has a capacity of just over 1000. So here we have a show that was 55% empty that goes into the publicity number Rapino likes to use, when the show could have been booked at another wholly owned venue and been 15%-20% empty. Do this for all the show and only 10% of the tickets would be unsold.
