Re: “If Oakland Cracks Down On Underground Warehouses, It Will Snuff Out The City’s DIY Soul

Posting some days later: seemed like most of the victims had responsible jobs; not one was described as living on ssi. One was a lawyer, another worked at Pandora. Several worked in the music or arts sectors, but did so quite seriously and earned a living. Some of the above comments leapt to conclusions based on no facts or made rash assumptions. For better public discourse we could try to eschew polemics that just seek to legitimate ideas we already hold, without considering the actual events or info in an article.

Re: “Oakland Landlord Evicts Tenant, Then Hangs Pro-Trump Billboard on Building

Bio believably says: "always eyeing how to maximize rents, minimize expenses and squeeze out every dollar of cash flow." Time to work on squeezing out some human kindness, too. It's not about who Gorelik voted for, so much as it is about being a decent human being.

Re: “Oakland Officials Describe Vandalism After Anti-Donald Trump Rally As Some Of Worst They've Seen

This self-indulgent expression helps what? Glass companies. Police officers who collect overtime pay. Law-and-order wingers who want evidence for a more repressive state. More useful forms of protest, please!

Re: “Oakland School District Unveils Plans for New Headquarters — Possibly in Kaiser Auditorium

At the meeting, Dewey Academy folks came out in force to urge board to go ahead and relocate the administration at a refurbished 1025, resurrect the Moore Building next door, build a new multipurpose facility for Dewey, and strongly urged board not to build any type of housing whatsoever near Dewey. Board asked questions and plans to put it back on agenda sometime after the next scheduled meeting. Superintendent wasn't there, but is expected to present a staff recommendation. No mention of further "community engagement" meetings. A couple of boardmembers questioned wisdom of leasing space rather than owning their own facility over the long term, even though costs presented as approx. the same. Board asked for more detail on costs. Nick Orton spoke briefly, said he understood the "no housing" points being made and that that part was separate from proposal to lease at auditorium. Videotape is posted on ousd website if anyone wants to look at it.

Re: “Town Business: Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center to Become Private Offices

There are so many excellent deficiencies for which to criticize me, certainly, but there's not much I can do about my age, Max! (I'll try not to taunt you as you gain in years yourself. May your hair never grey, your paunch never paunch, your steps never slow, your youngers never rag on you.) Had it not been for some of us stupid aged ones, a cathedral would loom in front of the auditorium today.

Re: “Town Business: Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center to Become Private Offices

Actually, probably NOT tech offices. This story needs some follow-up.
