My punk years preceded Gilman's heyday, and as I never much cared for hardcore (Circle Jerks was about it for me, maybe a little Black Flag) I've not had much cause to go there (though I have been to a few shows & have a membership card). That said, I have always appreciated its all ages/straight edge policies and wish there had been such a place for me when I was a teenager.

I sincerely hope the club can work through these issues and continue doing its most important job - providing a home for the outcasts, losers, and punk rock geeks (such as yours truly).

Trump's response was racially coded misrepresentation serving as red meat for the Republican base. Oakland and Ferguson the most dangerous places in the world? Hardly - in fact, neither feature in this recent survey (though a few other American cities do):….

Jerome Funkhauser: Trump claimed Oakland was one of the most dangerous cities in the world, not in the country. That's a complete and utter fabrication, not 'simply...a fact'.

As usual, Mitchell Halberstadt is eager to sweep Oakland's diversity into the dustbin of history. I certainly won't be following his example by dining at techy-friendly intruder Fortune - I'll keep supporting real neighborhood restaurants like Shan Dong Noodle House.
