Re: “Grease Box, Phat Beets, and the ‘G’ Word

I will add a comment that supports Ms. Box, rather than condemns her, seeing that my account will be banned otherwise.

The major operative fallacy in this conjunction of first hand accounts is a negligence of distinction between class and race.

“Historic residents of color were pushed out of the space by a new, more affluent business,” he said. “That's displacement, and that's gentrification, which Phat Beets is against because it undermines food justice and economic justice.”

Can you see it? Color, affluence. Race, class. Because Ms. Box is white, she's more affluent, otherwise it's simply not gentrification; but Ms. Box lives in the same neighborhood as you, which has a 60K$ median income (and I can't make comments about persons named in the article, so...). Who's making that 100-120K$ a year to offset our 30-40K$ annual? The people who shop at organic farmers markets.

What happens is a sort of over-classification as a basis of self preservation.

Re: “Greening the Greeks at UC Berkeley

I'm pretty sure that People's Park residents have been taking care of this for quite some time.

Re: “Oakland's Troubadour

Some of Miguel's earlier work:

I wonder where that fish has gone.
You did love it so.
You looked after it like a son.
And it went wherever I did go.
Is it in the cupboard?
Yes! No!
Wouldn't you like to know.
It was a lovely little fish.
And it went wherever I did go.
It's behind the sofa!
Where can the fish be?
Have you thought of the drawers in the bureau?
It is a most elusive fish.
And it went wherever I did go!
Oh fishy, fishy, fishy, fish.
Fish, fish, fish, fishy oh!
Oh fishy, fishy, fishy fish.
That went wherever I did go.

Also the tv show with the gay judge.
