Re: “Chowhound in Crisis: An Unpopular Redesign Prompts Longtime Users to Leave the Food Discussion Website

It's interesting that so far as I can find with Google this is still the only news story about this. I'd think Eater would be on it and maybe Inside Scoop / sfgate.com since there's a local angle.

CBS News is just one department of many in CBS Broadcasting, which is just one of CBS Corporation's numerous holdings.

Re: “Chowhound in Crisis: An Unpopular Redesign Prompts Longtime Users to Leave the Food Discussion Website

I set up http://foodtalkcentral.com using Discourse, a very nice discussion platform created by some of the principals behind Stack Exchange.

A bunch of regulars from Chowhound's Los Angeles board have moved over there. Not much traffic on the SF Bay Area section yet but I'll add more stuff now that I'm back in town.

I can set up additional regional sections for anyone else who wants a Chowhound alternative.

Re: “Liquor License Mixup Prompts Mockingbird to Go BYOB

How can The New Parish operate a nightclub on a type 47 license if they don't get 51% of their gross receipts from food sales?

Re: “Now Is the Time to Buy an Oakland Condo

"The median condo price is now just $272,500, the lowest it’s been in nearly a decade ..."

On the other hand, in 1996, the last year before the housing bubble reached the Berkeley-Oakland area, condos were selling for half that, and $270,000 would get you a three-bedroom house in a nice neighborhood. Prices may fall further before they stabilize.
