Oakland, Berkeley, And East Bay News, Events, Restaurants, Music, & Arts
This is very discouraging news indeed.
I believe what the Good Book say:
“One who is faithful with little will also be faithful with much, and one who is dishonest with little will also dishonest with much."
I suggest a silent protest at every city council meeting.
Amen Matt!!! Truer words could not have been written. I have wondered innumerable times why these protests are centered in Oakland, on freeways, Bart etc. versus the surrounding affluent cities. Come on folks -what about protesting in Alameda? Piedmont? Marin? Alamo? Hello???? There's a vast untouched territory out there- Go and conquer.
Ms. Gibson McElhaney activities outlined in this article, and the previous one, represents moral hazard plain and simple. That's why our elected officials should be held to the same standards as the rest of the public in order to run for office. However where is the outrage? Our city council members are voting on matter of public funding, voting on private and public contracts etc. yet they lie, steal and can't keep their own finances in order.
Although it is discouraging that the City of Oakland never does anything to punish or hold these people accountable at least SOME newspaper media ( i.e you ) are exposing things like this. Far be it for our local news media or newspapers to do any similar investigative reporting! They are too busy chasing down non local stories like the 2 year old child who shot his mother in a Walmart in the Mid-West. Yeah we really need to know non local information like this…
The dangerous health effects of soda, processed foods and GMO's are to the 21st century what cigarettes were to the 20th. Eventually there will be a public backlash so large that corporate money will no longer be able to control or influence it.
Thanks for your report on this- its something the mainstream media all but ignores these days.
So if there's not much to be had by fracking in California (according to Federal reports) why did the Senate bill die? It should have gotten an easy pass. But- as usual- big business gets their way with our politicians.
Fracking was just found to have caused injury by a court in Texas. See Parr etal vs Arubua Petroleum. A three million dollar judgement was handed down against the oil company in that case.
If educators or teachers disagree with the moral or religious doctrines of particular school why would they even bother( or want) to work there? To expect Catholic schools to accept beliefs and lifestyles contrary to their own traditional beliefs is plainly unreasonable. To attempt to force them to do so, in my opinion, is reverse discrimination.
