Re: “Merritt College Nursing Woes

Nursing Program Retention Rates National Averages

RN BA programs - 90% retention rate
RN Associate programs - 83% retention rate

Thanks for the post PB. Sorry but there's not to many programs like Merritt College. Its a program of its own. Which program in Idaho are you referring to?

Re: “Merritt College Nursing Woes

My only problem is that they were going to cut 60-70% to begin with. They had this planned from the beginning. I was not planning on coming to this school, but they kept calling asking me to take the TEAS test (91% I might add) and they really seemed to want me to come here. They said your the type of student we want. I really felt misled. They should not have done this. I'm having a hell of a time finding a job! This program put me in debt 5 grand and I'm struggling to make rent. All the hospitals are on a hiring freeze, my last job has been replaced, I really don't know what I'm going to do. I'm not from california and have no family out here. This program really should only accept 30-40 qualified candidates to begin with. I mean look at the facility and resources, they never had enough room for 100-120 students. I'm fine with not making the cut, but the situation I'm in now could have been avoided if Merritt was straight with the students and straight with themselves about the amount of students they can handle. Sure the strong survive or whatever all you gang bangin nurses say, but a lot of people are in tough dire situations. I know I'm right about this and I hope the board of nursing makes sure they don't repeat this to gain more funding for their own benefit and put people in extremely tough situations. You guys think your program is tough try being in my situation. Shame on all the administrators responsible. I believe in karma and I hope and pray you get your share of it.
