If it's so easy, why are you not among the top of your 2008 class? And why have you failed out of the program?

Nursing requires critical thinking and assessment skills, which are higher levels of thinking, comparable to Medical doctor's critical thinking skills, in order to ensure patient's safety, promote health and more importantly, anticipate a problem before it happens. I believe to make it in nursing school you have to come equipped with that skills or have it naturally. I remember a friend of mine who failed nursing school told me, " either you get it or you don't." Similarly, not everyone who applied to medschool can get in. Thus I strongly believe nursing school should have a stricter guideline on admitting their students in order to admit the most qualified applicants. By doing this, merritt may not have such a high drop out rate. I know it must be difficult what the failing students are going through now and it will take time to heal.
However, there are other healthcare fields to go into which require task oriented skills and no criticalling skills. And in those healthcare field most people passed. ex. Dental assistant, medical assistant, pharmacy technician, and cna. Good luck.
Re: “Merritt College Nursing Woes”
i guess she wasn't equipped the first time around but still you shouldn't blame the school for you failure b/c nursing is difficult in generaL. Only the top make obviously there are still 40 people in the class. It's not a walk in the park; you got to have the intellectual capability not only the desire to learn.
