Re: “The Great Compromise in Orinda

I too am a long time Orinda resident and find this whole project reprehensible. We are living in a day and age when more open space, not less is required for the mental and spiritual health of our citizenry. I roamed those pastures as a child, and today, gazing down from Sibley Park the valley is almost unrecognizable. We don't need more homes and more people. Open space is precious and needs to be preserved. Wild animals, birds, deer, wildcats etc. are being squeezed out of our increasingly urbanized spaces and once they're gone humans will have no experiential reference to nature. This land could have been purchased and retired, or handed over to the park system. This would have made more economic sense in the long run as the relative values of the land as open space will only increase with time. The public needs open space. People are stressed out enough as it is and crowding more and more homes into every nook and cranny of Contra Costa and the Bay Area is only going to decrease the economic and environmental health of our principality.
