Oakland, Berkeley, And East Bay News, Events, Restaurants, Music, & Arts
Excellent place for fresh fish. I bought sardines there and they were perfect. I w/ return for more fish soon.
Raze the old coliseum site and build public-funded housing for the people who commute to jobs in San Francisco (with secure parking for their vehicles unlike San Francisco). That would add more tax revenues to the city and the county and revitalize an area that is closer to blight than a sports complex. Add shopping and access to the water for a livable, friendly, safe space for everyone.
Out here in Oakland off park Blvd between Lake Merritt and Highway 580, every time the sky is overcast or it is raining or the ceiling is low, aircraft of all sizes fly very low - about 2 to 3000 feet - on approach to San Francisco Intl. Airport. Through the clouds, I have seen Boeing 747' s and other "heavies" flying right over me, my building and/or my neighborhood which is rather densely populated. Taller buildings in the neighborhoods and the two towers of the Federal building in downtown Oakland have sported new marker lights blue here and blinking at the Fed Bldg, most likely imposed by FAA regulations. During heavy traffic, when flights arrive from Europe in the afternoon and from Asia later in the day, aircraft are following each other within minutes. All these flights are inbound to SFO lining up with one of the two runways for landing. I must say it is rather disturbing in the evening and dangerous. Any of these planes could hit a rooftop with their landing gears out. I cannot imagine the destruction and the deaths it would bring. Did I mention I live in the penthouse?!?
I don' t think the mayor has any other choice. Spend the money to protect downtown and other sites in Oakland. Oakland is constantly in the news with protests, riots and other. Worse is to come with the Warriors either winning or losing the championship. No city official has any reason to surrender downtown to a bunch of thugs who most likely are not from Oakland either.
I am no basketball fan but the Warriors are making Oakland proud. And I am watching the games...
As for this so-called high speed train, it is and remains a huge waste of state resources, money and effort paid for by the California taxpayer/cash cow for something that will barely be used and will cost too much. Resources would have better used in upgrading the already present trains and rail networks in the state like Caltrain from Gilroy to Sacramento (with electrification, direct tracks, safeguarding crossings, etc), Metrolink in Los Angeles, Amtrak within the state.
When I heard about that water pipeline on the radio, I was flabbergasted. It was the same as 30 years ago with the Peripheral Canal which was defeated in a ballot initiative by California voters. Why does Gov. Brown think we have forgotten about this water grab from the south? It would ruin the Delta and Northern California just like Los Angeles ruined Owens Valley. And the cost, both financial and ecological, is too high. Just say no.
Children welcome, hey? Considering how badly behaved children are in America - why is it always about the children - maybe this is a place to avoid. Like Pyramid.
