Re: “The Scavenger's Manifesto

Ms. Rufus really captures the excitement and attraction of scavenging. I love surprises and old stuff. Great writing!

Re: “Dellums Threatens to Lay Off 140 Cops

Dellums is just after headlines. And he wants the feds to bail us out so that he won't have to make any actual decisions. He's gotten by as mayor thus far without thinking, and why start now. (By the way, isn't it cute that city council members are asking for suggestions about what to cut? Like they would read that.) Firing all of Edgerly's friends, relatives, and preferential hires, months ago, would have signaled that Dellums is serious about balancing the budget. He could also have proposed getting rid of entire unnecessary departments, like Crafts & Cultural Arts (that's a department??). But no, he interrupts his nap to propose cutting our skeleton police force even further, in this ocean of criminals.

Re: “Tragedy on the French Trail

I am a dog owner. Dogs should not be allowed off leash in parks, where they can kill prey animals and frighten horses, possibly causing death to both horse and rider. There are local dog parks set aside in which dogs can safely be off leash. Even in dog parks, however, dogs in groups of 3 or more can behave very badly, in ways they normally would not, attacking and attempting to kill other, smaller dogs. Responsible dog owners know this and remain constantly on guard because of it. Regional parks are simply not a suitable place for people to take their dogs off leash. In fact, dogs should be banned altogether from regional parks if experts don't think leash laws would be obeyed there.

Re: “EdgerlyGate: Who's to Blame?

Jerry Brown and his developer friends and business partners were as crooked as they come. It's no big surprise if he hired or promoted Edgerly and a bunch of other local crooks and allowed them to hire their ignorant, crooked, unqualified friends and family. Just go to the assessor's office and see all the land Jerry and his friends own, all over Oakland.
