By the way, Yudof, Hume and their wives were seen having an amiable and cheerful dinner at Scott's in Jack London Square last night, scarcely the behavior of booter and bootee.
This really unfair to both Hume and Yudof, quite untrue, and can only be charitably described as uninformed speculation. Nonsense would be the accurate term.
Let me count the ways it is wrong:-
Yudof did not get rid of Hume. Hume had been planning, as he has said, for several months, to retire at the end of three years. He told Yudof this yesterday, as a courtesy, to enable Yudof time to find a successor for him. Sorry to spoil the story, but there was no boot involved.
Hume will be taking a break but is not retiring from higher education and health care and envisages many more active years in these fields.
Hume was far more than a caretaker. Ask those he has worked with.
I don't see why you describe the Regents' announced intention to appoint an outsider as a "fix". It does, however, partly explain why Hume formed the intention months ago to retire from UC at the end of three years, which is September 1. His decision had nothing to do with Yudof, whose name had not even surfaced at that point
the fact that stuff like this with no basis in truth can be published is an unfortunate by- product of internet "journalism" No responsible journalist would present speculation unsupported by any evidence as if it were factual
