Oakland, Berkeley, And East Bay News, Events, Restaurants, Music, & Arts
It should be obvious to anyone that to conflate a proposed development that will take several months to a year to construct with an unfortunate recent eviction just further shows the ridiculousness of worrying about a very short delay of a required Commission hearing.
People who are truly paying attention know that I've been a strong advocate for renter protections and more housing--especially affordable units--to be built.
Please all be aware that apparently some people will throw reality under the bus by making ridiculous/false/absurd claims that I would try to stop a significant housing development that includes market and below market (bmr) units.
A mere two-week delay for a Planning Comm hearing in order to have a long-promised (but difficult to schedule) community mtg is not a big deal--and certainly not an effort to stop any project.
Oakland is full of thoughtful people who have differing perspectives. However, sometimes some people let their speculative imagination overtake reality, which of course is never helpful.

Best wishes Bob. You have big shoes to fill. Thanks for all your good reporting over the years.
Our ordinances require safe, secure storage of guns in homes and in unattended motor vehicles. Too many guns are stolen from homes and cars and the then used by criminals to commit other serious crimes. Additionally, requiring safe storage in homes can help reduce accidental deaths and even reduce suicides.
p.s. I am well aware of what the NRA does. I stand by my previous statements.
I'm proud of be one of the sponsors of these three ordinances. I'm quite confident that they will hold up in court should the NRA decide to sue our city. Frankly, the NRA should hire more people to promote gun safety and fewer lawyers to stop common sense gun laws.
Congrats to Ms. Droste on her election.
