Re: “Community of Concern

The advice that folks not move near hospitals, schools, universities, BART transit villages, etc, because they are "likely to have construction at some point," isn't very realistic or helpful. The East Bay flats are filled with these institutions. For many of us, the hills are not an option. Besides, this neighborhood was here before Children's opened in 1914. We actually like living here, and being near Children's Hospital. It's also nice for the patients to be near a family-oriented neighborhood, not a concrete wasteland.
More importantly, it's a risky precedent for Alameda County taxpayers to subsidize construction of a 12-story tower expansion -- NOT a retrofit or rebuild -- for a private hospital, regardless of the commendable service it provides. Which private venture will be next in line for taxpayer dollars as we enter a recession?
