Re: “Dani Torres and Daniel Alvarez Flores

NOT BLUES FOLK or COUNTRY They play Spanish Guitar ansd Salsa

Dani Torres is a dynamic guitarist, singer, and multiinstrumentalist across styles and genres, bringing his talent, knowledge and enthusiasm to solo and group performances from mendocino county to the mexican border since 1991. rock, spanish guitar, salsa ,

mariachi, folk, top 40, pop, country, jazz, classical, gypsy, middle eastern, and various other musics of the world are all part of dani’s song list. beginning with the guitar in 1980, then theory lessons from frank zappa’s close friend wally bower in 1984, dani’s music is beyond labels, yet always includes something familiar to everyone, lifting spirits everywhere he plays and sings.

Daniel alvarez flores is a singer, composer, and virtuoso guitarist who studied in his native el salvador with candido morales, a student of agustin barrios mangore, as well as at the s.f. conservatory of music. daniel has performed at the mission cultural center, the oakland museum, kqued-tv, and various cultural events & public festivals throughout the bay area.

together, as TORRES & FLORES, dani & daniel rock their rumbas with romantic melodies, robust rhythms & rich harmonies, singing and playing as one, yet sounding orchestral at times,

others warm & intimate ~ the beauty & power of the stone & the flower!

Re: “Layla Musselwhite and The Kingdom

Layla Musselwhite grew up reading the Greek myths as her bedtime stories, while living a cataclysmic gypsy life on the road in Europe and the United States with her musician father Charlie Musselwhite. Her songs are mythological portraits translated into emotional autobiography, delivered in both French and English, in a haunting low timbre complemented by percussive gypsy and flamenco rhythms.

With her is guitarist Michael Kaminski (former guitarist for Cop Shoot Cop), last seen with Martin Bisi (producer for Herbie Hancock, Sonic Youth, Dresden Dolls) and his Sirens of the Apocalypse tour, who adds a modern and highly textured East Coast perspective to Layla’s ethereal soundscapes. Geordie Van Der Bosch is a San Francisco percussionist who has studied with the great local Cuban percussionists Sandy Perez and Carlos Aldama. He has played previously with BruMar, Guapachoso Band, Nova Jazz and Grupo Obara.

Re: “Paintings by Lori Hansen

ress Release

LORI HANSON'S PAINTINGS
AT ART HOUSE GALLERY AND CULTURAL CENTER
2905 SHATTUCK AVENUE
BERKLEY, CA 94705
510-472-3107

Lori Hanson in conjunction with Art House Gallery puts together a group of painting works which span the years 1993-2000. "At a glance the fleshy, twisted, fun house images could fall under the stylistic banner of Pop Surrealism. Closer inspection shows they sound other notes as well." The exhibition features magic realist type portraits as well as narrative landscapes, which carry Lori Hanson's brand of grotesque psychological image making. The paint and color along with the use of materials that support and enshrine these paintings carry an emotional wallop. These images created while Hanson resided in the Bay Area gave her way to "stage - manage" , "conflicted impulses toward supercilious satire and empathetic pathos."
Come and experience for yourself, these complex and colorful topographies.

OPENING RECEPTION; SATURDAY, AUGUST 7, 2010
2 -5 PM

show runs from August 1 through October 1, 2010
open weekends or by appointment 510-472-3107

Hanson graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute, where they had exiled her to studio X. Moving to Massachusetts she lived alone in a small cabin by a dark lake and served as an apprentice for master artist Gregory Gellespie. Lori has exhibited her work all over California and other states too. You can view her more recent work at

rosengrove.com

Currently she is showing recent paintings at the Columbia Community College Rotunda Gallery, in historical Columbia California, where she also teaches.
Lori resides with her husband in the Sierra foothills, where she paints the oak trees and rocks and flowers. She brings and enchanted vision to these paintings as well.
