Re: “The Cry of Amazon.com

The reason it worked is because Amazon can find great out of print books at low prices and without a 10% rakeoff going in some politician's pocket which is what the 'state' is. I've found more great books at Amazon in the last 10 years than at regular bookstores in the previous 40 years.

Re: “Why Curfews Don't Work

I used to live near Tech and the best thing would be to shut it down.
Enforcing truancy laws only means that the unmotivated disrupters are forced to stay and make life hell for everyone.

Re: “Amazon's Gambit

They are raising taxes, what you call a 'loophole' is where we outside the government get to keep more of our money.
Keeping our money is not a 'free lunch.' I will now personally boycott Walmart's and all other businesses that support Hancock.
Lack of government funds does not hurt me, losing more of my money to government does. That 9 or 10% we save is not just a 'few bucks' to many of us on fixed incomes.
Amazon helps us, government hurts us.
So after 65 in AZ you apply again ? Why not just abolish driver's licenses and declare driving a right and not a privilege.
Amazon is making a big mistake with their stupid compromise proposal and they should just fight it.
If they lose another big business goes belly up and the state won't get more money. Brown had no interest in creating jobs when he was Gov the first time around and nothing has changed except the utter stupidity of the voters in electing him again.
By the way it is an absolute insult to Mr. Gammon to write that only a dozen people read this. The readership online is in the thousands. Even though I usually disagree with the Express they do work very hard to put out a paper, a very hard enterprise these days.
I think it's time to stop chewing the same cabbage as regards the Amazon issue and move on.
As far as our overpriced local merchants go, cry me a river.
As Marx wrote that's the nature of capitalism.
No customer owes any business anything.

Re: “Why Curfews Don't Work

I'm normally opposed to curfews and agree with most of the editor's comments
except the people of color nonsense as these groups commit crimes way out of proportion to their numbers. I'd like more real criminals arrested and if that further strains police-minority relations, tough.

Re: “Tire-Slashing Spree in Berkeley and Oakland

Yoyo, you miss the whole point as usual and your wrong as usual.
Douchebag is a proper noun for these folks as is scumbag.
As Slashed correctly said, douchebag is very mild term to describe these vermin, which is also a proper noun in their case too.

Re: “Tire-Slashing Spree in Berkeley and Oakland

Lawngun, douchebag is not only an entirely accurate term to describe these anti-humans but it's a proper noun in their case or cases.
