Re: “Trader Joe's to Charm Rockridge with Snacks and Cheap Wine

What a waste of a primo piece of land next to BART! This could be dozens of apartments, or even a Saks. Rockridge does not need a low-priced frozen-food outlet (which is what Trader Joe's sells - it does not fit with Rockridge's gourmet heritage) bringing hundreds of cars to what should be a transit village. But unlike those socialists in Berkeley, we can't just dictate to landowners what we want. Still, it would have been nice if Jane Brunner sought community input the way Pat Kerginan did for the Lakeshore Albertsons.

Re: “What to Make of the A's Move to Fremont?

Mr. Buel, aren't you going to back up your assertion that Ignacio de la Fuente and Jerry Brown are at fault for Oakland losing the A's? As you may recall, Fremont County Supervisor Haggerty endorsed Dellums, who's been in town but isn't doing anything. Is he to blame? It's very irresponsible for you to make wild accusations and then fail to back them up when questioned.

Re: “Berkeley NIMBYs Just Say No to Trader Joe's

First, congrats on the blog. All of you are writing tons of interesting items, and I love reading them (even though I'm only commenting on a few). WH, you should file this under Politics & Government, too. Berkeley's absurd Zoning Adjustments Board (which prevented a restaurant recently reviewed in the EBX from serving dinner, to preserve the industrial character of its neighborhood) and this bizarrely suburban neighborhood mindset are what happens when "community input" trumps a city's need for growth and change.

Re: “Faxploitation: I Hooked Up a Trader Joe's -- Vote for Me!

Yay! A Trader Joe's on the bus line! Thanks, Pat!

Re: “Business Group Says It Won't Buy Oakland Election, After All

Also, Allison is benefiting from a Karl Rovesque push-poll, funded independently, asking voters if they'd be less likely to vote for Kernighan if they knew that she is a close ally of Ignacio, whose "associates are under federal investigation," it says. Ask Pamela Drake, she told me about it. I know that Mr. Gammon agrees with the sentiment of the push-poll, but the EBX should point out that Allison is accepting soft-money help while Pat is not. Not to mention non-Oakland help.

Re: “Love Oakland (Optional)

This is hilarious. These dumb SFers should be spending their time trying to prevent Chris Daly from losing his seat, not meddling in an election they know nothing about. Of course, this came from the DellumsWatch blog - perhaps you should add it to the blogroll?

Re: “Oakland Mayor-elect Ron Dellums To Hold Press Conference, According to Aimee Allison

First, OakPAC did NOT say they would spend $116k on District 2; most of that is for their citywide campaign on behalf of Courtney Ruby. Second, Dellums has no credibility on this issue - he violated the spanding cap in the June election by tens of thousands of dollars! Why isn't the press pointing that out?
