Oakland, Berkeley, And East Bay News, Events, Restaurants, Music, & Arts
I don't get the headline. Please explain it to me.
You neglect to mention that Ignacio de la Fuente was in the small minority of officials who opposed giving city money to the Beys. Additionally, while Congresswoman Lee may now realize that the Beys are not a good influence on the community, why didn't she think that when, say, Yusuf Bey was on trial for multiple counts of child rape, or earlier, when his racist and homophobic "sermons" were broadcast on TV?
Old news! These people have been fighting developments (and fire-protection measures) in the Oakland Hills based on this flower, are unsatisfied with replanting and other mitigation measures, and repeatedly lose in front of the City Council. They lost this fight in January; the Trib wrote about it.
Certainly cheaper than hiring the minimum number of cops Measure Y requires. Though, wouldn't it be just as good to put some damn maps in our commercial districts?
Of course people will object to reading the animal-rights agenda when they're looking for some ideas for the farmers' market! Pretentiousness will not improve the Chron's food section. And isn't an obsession with tired mainstays like Chez Panisse the problem?
The Trib's editorial was silly, and read like one of Brenda Payton's vague, metaphorical hit-pieces. We're talking about EMAILS here, and the fact they're missing has more to do with Oakland's antiquated IT systems than malfeasance. Notice that nobody has referred to a single item of importance that's missing.
