The intimate, actor-founded repertory theater hosts a variety of performances, from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof to The Lion in Winter, in addition to stand-up comedy nights and acting classes.
The theatre has kept up such a high standard of excellence on its two stages in recent years that it stands head and shoulders above larger regional rivals.
Located in a 70-year-old former-vaudeville theater house, Brava (note the feminine ending) is a "professional arts organization" dedicated to "celebrating the intersection of feminism and multiculturalism that ignites social change and builds community." Diverse audiences and national recognition make Brava a paragon of San Francisco culture.
High camp, tall wigs, thin plot-lines and dense punnery characterize "Beach Blanket Babylon", the 37-year-old show running at Club Fugazi. Fans of outrageous--in the grin-inducing sense of the word--musical theater should be delighted.
In its more than 125-year history--which by the way has earned it status as an "historical site"--the Danville Village Theatre has been a Grange hall, a church and a movie theatre, before becoming what it is today: a 245 seat theatre downstairs from a fine arts gallery. Who knows what the future will bring, but in the mean time the Danville Village Theatre can be rented for $81 per hour (25% surcharge for non-Danville residents).
