The Mountain winery traces its roots back to 1878, when founder Paul Masson began grafting vines planted by early California missionaries to vines brought from the French vineyard where he grew up. The resulting champagne was a wild success, generating enough money for Masson to build his own winery in Saratoga. Today Mountain Winery produces Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, and Syrah. The winery has become well-known as a music venue as well. They host a summer concert series in a amphitheater on the property that consistently draws big-name performers between June and October.
