Berkeley Horticultural is a medium-size, family-owned retail nursery that provides a large selection of plants with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. It has departments specifically for California natives, Mediterranean plants, roses, tropical plants, cacti, and bulbs. It also has a smaller selection of Japanese maples and citruses, as well as gardening supplies, fertilizers, and tools. Berkeley Horticultural Nursery also frequently hosts free classes. It will deliver locally but does not do mail-order.
Native Here Nursery is a project of the California Native Plant Society. It's a public facility operated for the East Bay Regional Park District. The goal of Native Here is to propagate stands of native plants throughout the East Bay. Its selection of plants and seeds vary according to what volunteers have brought in. So, if you're looking for a specific plant, it might be a good idea to call before you visit.
Westbrae Nursery isn't the largest nursery in the East Bay but it does have a nice range of products and services. It has a wide selection of four-inch annuals and perennials and succulents. It has several indoor and outdoor fountains and containers for plants. In addition, Westbrae provides a complete selection of organic and synthetic fertilizers and pesticides for those who don't want to get their hands dirty. Westbrae will pot your plants for you, special order plants, or deliver for an extra charge.
