If the Pleasanton Hotel seems a little too formal, head across the street to the Main Street Brewery, where everything is looser and livelier. This is adult entertainment primarily for Pleasanton’s thirtysomething-and-older crowd. The Main Street features free blues and rock shows on Friday and Saturday nights. There’s a full menu with usual bar food: burgers, sandwiches, and salads, plus a kids’ menu.

McGrail Vineyard specializes in Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard has been growing Cab grapes for ten years, and McGrail sourced grapes for Steven Kent Winery first, before beginning to bottle their own wines in 2003. Today, the winery produces about 1,000 cases a year, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon (though one Chardonnay, as well).

Mitchell Katz Winery sits on 97 acres of vineyard. The grapes are all owned by Wente Vineyards, of which 20 tons are usually bought back for Mitchell Katz wine. The winery produces 10,000 cases of wine every year made, in large part, from the grapes grown in the Livermore Valley. Varietals include Petite Sirah, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Port, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc. Make sure to try the winery's 2007 Sangiovese, and 2006 "Black Gold" Petite Syrah Port — both were winners a slew of medals and awards.

The produce hear is always abundant and fresh. Enough said.
